- IMPORTANT ARMING PROCEDURE : For the large squirrel trap, you must pull back the 2 levers then pass the rod over both. If you pass the rod over only one lever, the trap will not generate the necessary force and will not kill the animal instantly. In order to avoid this we have voluntarily set the trap so that it gets stuck when triggered if you only pass the rod over a single lever to avoid injuring the animal. - IMPORTANT INSTLLATION PROCEDURE: it's important that you screw the trap's cedar board, using the hole already present at the back of the door, onto a flat surface such as a tree, fence, patio post. A squirrel trap will be more effective if it is installed a little high, vertically, with the opening pointing towards the ground. - Effectively exterminate - The perfect trap for gray squirrels. The trap is specially designed for bigger unwanted animals, the powerful technology ensures a quick extermination. For smaller squirrels, please see the 3-10 variation above. - Robust for outdoor use - An ideal trap for commercial, professional or residential use. Built to withstand harsh weather it’s perfect for outdoor use. Safely install these traps for animals in your garden, a forest or a field to catch big squirrels. - Durable and efficient - This powerful animal trap will surely last for several years. It is equipped with a galvanized metal frame and heavy-duty cedar bottom making it stable and secure. Which bait goes with which animal...
Since 1997, Ouell Traps are manufacturers, distributors and exporters of traps designed for trapping and pest control. Since our traps are engineered and manufactured by hand in Canada, they are especially recognized for their great Reliability and Durability . Our partnership with the Quebec Ministry of Forest, Wildlife and Parks as well as the Canadian Fur Institute, insure a first-rate, and high-performance product.
Our team's priorities are to listen to our customers and to constantly develop excellent products. We serves several maple producers, exterminators, hunting and fishing stores, trappers, farms, and the public.
We have chosen very durable top quality materials to build our traps such as cedar, galvanized steel or ABS plastic! Initially, Ouell traps were invented for trappers so they are made to spend the year outside in bad weather. You won't see the end of it and you will catch a lot with it, our traps are reusable many many times!
No poison, no injury, our traps are designed to eliminate harmful rodents on the spot. With our ultra-powerful springs. As soon as the animal enters the tip of the nose, the trigger will activate the levers to hit the rodent at the level of the neck. The animal will not have to enter the traps and will not suffer.
It is important to always use the built-in safety hook as long as you have to handle the trap. When the procedure is followed, our traps are safe!
With our 2-lever system, only the bottom bar will hit the animal. The upper bar will therefore serve as a lever to dispose of the animal without having to touch the carcass.
Open the rear door. Insert the bait - we suggest a piece of berry granola bar for the squirrels - into the nail. Close the back door once the bait is in place.
Facing the back of the trap, pull the top bar back and hook the safety hook. Repeat the operation with the second bar. Pull it to the rear and join it to the first, keeping them both in place with the safety hook to prevent any injury during handling.
Without removing the safety hook, pass the rod that is on the top of the trap, over the bars that you have just attached, then insert it into the upper half-circle of the trigger. The more the semi-circle of the trigger is on the end of the rod, the more the trigger will be sensitive and the faster the triggering will be.
Please note that to facilitate the insertion of the rod into the trigger, you may have to press with the palm of your hand on the bars which are still retained by the safety hook.
It's always important to fix the trap because the animal you're about to catch will always be a meal of choice for another predator and you don't want that predator running away with your trap.
We recommend that you screw the trap's cedar board, using the hole already present at the back of the door, onto a flat surface such as a tree, fence, patio post. A squirrel trap will be more effective if it is installed a little high, vertically, with the opening pointing towards the ground.
Once all the steps are completed and you no longer have to touch your trap, remove the safety hook.

For squirrels we suggest using a granola snack bar with berries. The mixture of granola, the smell of fruit and the sweet taste is very effective in attracting squirrels. It is certain that peanut butter can be effective as well.
Muskrats love carrots! Cut it to give a good piece of about 1" cube and use it in our Ouell RM for excellent results.
Most of the year, you will succeed in your groundhog fights using alfalfa sprouts, green cabbage or carrots! However, in the spring, we suggest grapes (red or green) or apple wedges.
A very good bait that was suggested to us by an excellent exterminator, is to keep the grease from cooking bacon. Once cooled, make a mixture with the fat and small dried grapes. Make small balls and put them in the traps for very good results!
