About Japanese Beetles

Trap Japanese Beetles in Three Simple Steps

Japanese beetles can be quite destructive to plants, but so can harmful chemical pesticides that are often used to kill them. Thanks to the Safer Brand Japanese Beetle Trap, you can effectively control the population of these garden pests in your yard without the need to spray chemicals. This trap uses a powerful lure to attract beetles away from your plants and into the collection bag, effectively trapping them inside and disrupting the breeding cycle.

Each Safer Brand Japanese Beetle Trap includes a unique time-released lure and disposable bag that can be replaced when full. Replacement baits and bags are available, so you can reuse the trap season after season.

Adult Japanese beetles (Popillia japonica) are incessant leaf-eating insects with 1/2-inch long shiny blue/green bodies and bronze-colored wings. Although the feeding seasons of adult Japanese beetles are short - about a few weeks each summer - the destruction they cause can be widespread. They are known to “skeletonize” leaves (eating all but the veins) and chew on the edges of flower blossoms leaving unsightly jagged edges.

Attach a disposable collection bag to the bottom of the yellow trap vane, and affix the lure packet to the lower third of one of the vane panels.

Along two sides of plant and garden perimeters, place 1 trap per 50 linear feet. Be sure to position traps upwind and at least 10 feet away from plantings.

Dispose of collection bags when they start to get full, and replace them to continue effectively trapping beetles.
