Witloof Chicory is a Belgian variety that is great for home gardening. Plants grow 12-18” tall and produce light to medium green leaves. Sow seeds directly outside ½” deep and 1” apart in full sun. After 4 weeks, thin seedlings to be 6-12” apart. Leaves have the best flavor when grown in cooler temperatures, so aim for fall or spring harvest. After 55-1115 days, plants should reach full size and are ready to be harvested. Leaves have a mildly acidic but sweet flavor. They are ideal for salads and taste great when cooked as well.
