What is fertilizer and why do plants need it?

Our carefully crafted bonsai fertilizer ensures an optimal NPK and micronutrient balance, promoting fast growth and contributing to the strength and health of your bonsai.

Fertilizer, often referred to as plant food, is a broad term for either a mixture of chemicals or naturally occurring matter that is used to enhance plants' growth. You can add fertilizers to the soil in liquid, water-soluble, and granular forms. At The Bonsai Supply, we prefer to add our fertilizers in a granular slow-release form. The slow release ensures that your Bonsai has enough time to absorb all the necessary nutrients.

Liquid and water-soluble fertilizers get washed out of the bottom of your pot by the second or third watering, and your tree does not have enough time to absorb any; that is why you do not see trees and plants grow much when liquid fertilizer is used.

For best results, we recommend scattering 1 tablespoon for every 4" pot length evenly across the topsoil layer every 30-45 days. You will notice a significant improvement in the health of your trees after just two applications.
