Product description

BG-Sweetscent ? Attractant for tiger mosquitoes!

Biogents mimics human skin scents with the BG-Sweetscent!

Patented technology ? scientifically proved!

The BG-Sweetscent is easy to be applied and used!

Biogents USA is an affiliate of Biogents AG, located in Germany. Biogents’ scientists develop and produce patented mosquito traps and attractants. Today, the spectrum of Biogents mosquito traps ranges from specialist devices used by scientists and health-care specialists worldwide to domestic products for home-use by the general public.

“How does a mosquito find its host? And what can you do about it?”

Answering this was part of Dr. Martin Geier's work at the University of Regensburg in Germany. He spent years analyzing the composition of scents that are attractive to mosquitoes and finding the key factors that influence the behavior of these flying disease vectors. His work was the base for the patented trap systems.

Biogents’ scientists continue to develop and refine the expertise and the products the company offers.

BG-Sweetscent is an artificial odor that mimics the scents found on human skin and is beeing used in mosquito traps. It targets host-seeking female mosquitoes. Using BG-Sweetscent as an attractant increases the traps' catch rate of tiger mosquitoes (Aedes albopictus) and yellow fever mosquitoes (Aedes aegypti)*.

The product is a pouch containing a proprietary and patented formulation based on lactic acid, mimicking human skin scent. The BG-Sweetscent sachet is effective for up to two months.

Available in: single pack, 3-pack for one season, 6-pack for 12 months

A mosquito recognizes and finds it's host by the human’s breath and skin scents. The main component of breath is carbon dioxide. There are also certain components of the human skin scents that are important indicators for mosquitoes in their search for blood.

Therefore, Biogents developed artificial scents that mimic the human skin scents, and make mosquito traps even more specific and capturing. Special scent dispensers release precisely the right amounts of selected components. The artificial scent is especially attracting to Asian tiger mosquitoes and dengue/yellow fever mosquitoes which are very much adapted to the human environment. They especially target humans and do not rely on carbon dioxide as much as other, more generalist mosquito species. This is why they can be attracted sufficiently just by human skin odors.

The BG-Sweetscent is a pouch containing a proprietary and patented formulation based on lactic acid. All components are food grade quality.

The BG-Sweetscent was developed through extensive laboratory and field testing. Scientific studies* evaluate the effectiveness of the BG-Sweetscent lure in combination with several commercial mosquito traps to assess the effectiveness of the BG-Mosquitaire trap with and without carbon dioxide. The results show that using BG-Sweetscent can increase catch rates of mosquitoes (Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus) that transmit dengue, chikungunya, and other dangerous diseases by a multiple*.

The BG-Sweetscent is registered by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), registration number 87472-1, and is available throughout the US, including California.

Using BG-Sweetscent in the BG-Mosquitaire or any other mosquito trap increases the trap’s attractiveness to Asian tiger mosquitoes and dengue / yellow fever mosquitoes.

Important: Do not open the sachet!

Place the BG-Sweetscent sachet inside the BG-Mosquitaire trap in the holder provided. The sachet has to be replaced after two months. Refills are available.

If you use the BG-Sweetscent with another mosquito trap, place the sachet inside the trap, on top, or under the roof depending on what trap model is used.

Distribution of the Asian tiger mosquito:

The Asian tiger mosquito, Aedes albopictus, has become one of the major mosquito pest species throughout most of the south-central and eastern United States. Over the past 30 years, this invasive and particularly aggressive daytime-biting mosquito has spread from its Asian origin to 5 continents. Over the last few years, the presence of Ae. albopictushas been reported from numerous new locations, reflecting an ongoing distribution in the USA. The tiger mosquito can be the vector of numerous diseases such as dengue, Zika, and chikungunya.

Behavior:

Tiger mosquitoes are primarily active during the day, including dawn and dusk. In many communities, it has become the major pest mosquito and, due to its unusually aggressive biting, has taken the joy out of spending time in the yard and garden. Adult tiger mosquitoes tend to rest near the ground in vegetation and readily bite if disturbed. They tend to have a short flight range and remain within a few hundred meters of their larval habitats. Tiger mosquitoes developed a great adaptability in colonizing new habitats in urban and suburban areas. Females utilize flower pots, bird baths, soda cans, buckets, plant saucers, plastic drainpipe extensions and many other human-made water holding containers as sites to deposit eggs.

Identification (Asian tiger mosquito):

“Albopictus” means white-painted. The Asian tiger mosquito is a small mosquito, with sizes ranging between 1/10 and 1/3 inch. The animal is black with bright white marks. A single white line that begins on the head and continues down the back of the central part of the body (the thorax) is the most conspicuous characteristic, along with the white markings on the legs.
